Parent Study Tips

Simple routines that improve follow-through without adding stress.

Build a calm homework start

  • Use the same start time on most school days so homework is a routine, not a negotiation.
  • Begin with a two-minute task list: due soon, hard but important, quick win.
  • Keep the first work block short. A 15-minute start is better than a 60-minute argument.

Make tutoring stick between sessions

  • Ask your child to explain one concept out loud after each tutoring session.
  • Save two corrected mistakes and review them before the next class.
  • Send the tutor one short parent note when homework stress spikes or a test date appears.

Prepare for quizzes without cramming

  • Review upcoming quizzes every Sunday and set one measurable goal for the week.
  • Use retrieval practice: close the notes, answer from memory, then check accuracy.
  • Stop heavy studying early the night before a test and protect sleep.

The 10-Minute Parent Reset

Once a week, ask: what worked, what got stuck, what is coming next, and what is one thing we will change? This keeps support specific and prevents school conversations from becoming constant pressure.
